ARTIST'S STATEMENT
|
| I've always been fascinated by the concept of natural beauty. I know this is dangerous ground. Today, many people see the search for beauty in art as an archaic and sentimental endeavor. Despite this I continue to be drawn to moments of beauty in the natural world.
I listen to the landscape, looking for settings and natural compositions that possess a quiet beauty. Such subjects don't announce their presence, but they reveal their beauty through a well seen and carefully crafted photograph. Just as a Japanese garden reveals nature's extraordinary beauty through the meticulous arrangement of common plants and stones, a photograph can reveal beauty that was "invisible" if not for the medium of photography and the vision of the photographer. Let us hope beauty never dies, because if beauty is dead, so are we. -Edward Riddell |
